Every March 19th, we celebrate National Backyard Day and all the creative ways we can enjoy our backyard spaces. From gardening to BBQs to backyard campouts, these green spaces let us connect with nature on our turf.
Host a Backyard Barbecue
Invite your friends and family over to enjoy some delicious food in the great outdoors. Set up some lawn games like cornhole or ladder toss to keep everyone entertained, and don’t forget to have plenty of cold drinks on hand.
Create a Cozy Reading Nook
You only need a comfortable chair or hammock, some pillows, and a good book. Add some string lights or lanterns for ambiance, and you’ll have a perfect spot to escape and enjoy some peace and quiet.
Plant a Garden
Spend planting (or planning) a garden full of your favorite flowers, vegetables, or herbs. You’ll not only have a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy, but you’ll also be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor all season long.
Build a Fire Pit
If you don’t already have a fire pit in your backyard, National Backyard Day is the perfect time to build one. You can purchase a pre-made fire pit or build one yourself using bricks or stones.
Set Up a Movie Night
Turn your backyard into an outdoor movie theater for the night. All you need is a projector, a white sheet or screen, and comfortable seating. Choose a family-favorite movie and enjoy a night under the stars with your loved ones.
Get Creative with a Shed Makeover
If you have a shed in your backyard, today may be the perfect time to give it a makeover. You can paint it a fun color, add decorative accents like window boxes, or even turn it into a mini greenhouse.
